FRANCES M. BERG, MS, LN

As editor, publisher and founder of  HEALTHY WEIGHT JOURNAL, Frances (Francie) M. Berg, M.S., L.N., reviews research, news and commentary across the weight spectrum for health professionals and consumers worldwide. A licensed nutritionist and family wellness specialist, she is the author of nine books. Her weekly column, Healthy Living, has appeared in over 50 newspapers.

Berg is an adjunct professor at the University of North Dakota School of Medicine and has lectured on weight issues throughout the nation. She holds a masterís degree in family social science and anthropology from the University of Minnesota, and a B.S. in home economics from Montana State University in Bozeman.
   Her latest bookChildren and Teens Afraid to Eatfocuses on the current weight and eating crisis for children and adolescents. It advocates a new approach to healthy weight and has received excellent reviews, as did her earlier healthy lifestyle program for teenagers,How to Be Slimmer, Trimmer & Happier. A long-time youth leader and educator, Berg has taught in high school and college, worked as an Extension Agent, participated in international youth exchanges, and served as a volunteer 4-H leader. 
   Berg is considered a national expert in the areas of healthy weight education and weight loss fraud. Her work with weight and health issues over the past twenty years has led her to advocate a shift away from weight loss toward prevention and good health at every size. Berg has appeared on numerous radio and television programs, including the Leeza Show, Oprah, and Inside Edition, and been quoted in USA Today, the New York Times, and Life Magazine. She has presented at national conferences including the American Dietetics Association SCAN, Society for Nutrition Education, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, National Wellness Institute and the Black Hills Wellness Seminar.
   She serves on the Boards of Directors of the American Diabetes Association, N.D. affiliate, the West River Regional Medical Center, and as national coordinator of the Task Force on Weight Loss Abuse for the National Council Against Health Fraud. She is a member of the North American Association for the Study of Obesity, Society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior, Academy for Eating Disorders, Association for the Health Enrichment of Large People, and the Society for Nutrition Education. Frances Berg and her husband, Bert, have four children and live in Hettinger, North Dakota.
